Then there were Max birthday in June

Friday, September 19, 2008

yeah, in a way, i'm glad that it's friday. It has been such a mentally exhausting week. It has been so tired.

i'm just glad that the weekend is here so that i can spend time with my family and at the same time, recharge a bit. it's tiring to push on when you are on low batt.

Looks like the world is not looking very good these days.

this bring me back to 10 years ago, or about 11 years ago. someone once told me before, it's a cycle, sometimes 8 years, sometimes 10 years.

i also heard of people losing a lot of money these days in stock market. some i heard 40 - 50k, some 100 over k.

we should brave ourselves for hard times ahead. as i've said, bring nothing to this world, bring nothing when we leave this world, so wealth is secondary. in this time of hardship, who is the one standing next to you? that is primary. that's why couples who brave thorough thick and thin together tend to have more lasting relationship.

just a thought:

we came to this earth with nothing, we will also leave this earth with nothing. We only leave behind memories of us to those who are still alive. So how do we want people to remember us when we die? that should be our purpose in life. yeah, i think i found my purpose, so my blog will no longer be drifters drifting our lives away.

i remembered, at grandma's funeral, many people said good things about her. I really feel that she has really lived a fruitful life. I wonder if the same would be of my funeral. Will my students say that i'm a good teacher? will my children said that i was a good mother? will my mother/mil said that i'm a good daughter/dil? will my friends say that i'm a good friend?

so the purpose is to live your life to the fullest, do good deeds, just be yourself.
can't remember the name of the show. we were flipping through the channels and finally landed ourselves on hbo signature.

The show was about this guy who was married and has 3 children. He was always busy working and his mobile phone is always ringing. so to cut my story short, his wife and daughter was killed in a accident while driving out from the mall. so the story is about how he and his 2 other sons cope with the family loss and to try to press charges against the driver.

He managed to find a very good lawyer, so through investigation and security cameras from the mall, they saw two cars street racing. so begins the trial of prosecuting this driver. This driver is a youngster. He was very remorseful and sorry. so when you think that justice is finally served, the story took a twist.

the father requested to meet this youngster in the conference room, face to face and wanted to hear what he has to say. Of course, the youngster cried and said sorry to him. then the father's heart sort of give in. He wanted to pull out the charges.

He received a phone call from his son's school that he was fighting. so he went to the school and saw youngsters in the school, doing street racing on the campus grounds. An idea came to him. He requested for an assembly programme. He brought the youngster to the school and had him talked about his mistakes in front of the whole school. He wanted this youngster to teach other youngsters not to street race. Of course, the other students in school was positive to it. i remembered what he said, 'on that day of the accident, i killed two people. but i destroyed 5 lives. including my parents, that will be 7. and 8, including myself.'

this thing came out in the news and soon, they were receiving calls from other schools and wanted them to do a talk for these students.

in the end, on the final day of the court hearing, the prosecutor changed their dunno what you call that. in the end, through mutual agreement, the youngster was not charged with felony and homocide, instead it was changed to something. and the sentence is he had to work with this father to come out with a programme that will reach out to youngsters and educate them about street racing. then dunno wat dunno wat, 300 hours of community service.

It was a happy ending for all.

this is really forgiveness to the fullest. it's amazing how some people can turn their suffering into a good cause. btw, this is a real life story that the show is depicting.

it also taught me that sometimes life is just like that... poof and you are gone, so it taught me to love the people around me more and appreciate things around me while i can still do.

darn, after saying that, that me makes me feel like not working. but as usual, 101 things to do, sianzzzzzzzzzzzzz

mabel's birthday in oct

Dear sis, will you be in Singapore for your birthday and mum's and mabel's?
we are planning to book a chalet at downtown east from 10/10-11/10.

yes, i do agree that long distance relationship is difficult even with the internet now.

being sick

since last monday 1/9, max, marcus and me had been taking turns to be sick. it first started with max, fever, (this was before the yona incident) then on wed, it was marcus and me. all have the same symptoms. fever and cough.

marcus slept in our room for a few nights, just want to monitor his cough at nigh. glad to say that most of us have recovered already. i remembered max lost his voice for a day. and yet, he wanted to talk so loudly and still so talkative.

this weekend it's mid autumn festival. on sat, my mum already bought some tickets to go chinese garden, can't say no to her. then on sunday, will plan and most probably bring the kids down to take lanterns.
i think it has been quite a while since i blog.

let me see,
since 2/9 - 4/9 was busy with N level duties.
then 5/9, brought mabel to AWWA school for a test. i really learn to appreciate my children more. and it doesn't help that max fell down from the yona on fri. i received the sms from marcus, this is what he say," max fell down from the yona by the broke and he fell together with the net with a big crash!'. so imagine i was outside with mabel, how worried i was. luckily there was my mil at home. When i went home, i looked at the yona, i really wonder how it fell out. it's not that we didn't secure. i also dunno how to describe, i also dunno how the maid handle the yona until the two metal can dislodge and came off. it was so difficult to even push the hook back in, so i really wonder how it managed to come off in the first place.

on 31/8, wanted to bring the kids to wild wild wet, but it was raining heavily, so in the end, met sil and bil with their kids and we proceed to orchid country club. the kids have a fun time playing and bowling.

on sat, 6/9. brought the kids to my friend's church wedding. and in the evening, brought them to east coast park. One of my student was having a BBQ to celebrate his birthday. We left at about 745pm. Then it started to rain heavily at about 800pm.

feeling very sick. coughing and splitting headache. and it hurts so much, when you cough, the pain in the head goes all the way down to the neck. I have already taken a panadol. after this, i want to go and sleep.

Max was sick first on monday. Marcus started coughing since Wed. Me, since tues. The whole house is filled with coughing people.

This is weird, am looking forward to the one week break, but now that i'm in the midst of it, not feeling any better,

probably because Max is sick, so he's very sticky and uncomfortable since sunday. hope the medication works and he would be feeling better soon.

oh yes, thanks for all the happy teachers' day greetings by students, ex-students and colleagues. It was great to see ex students, growing up well and fine and remembering the good old times. good to see present students studying hard for their coming exams. if all of you are my own children, i would give all of you a hug for being a fine student. Words are not enough for me to express my appreciation to you too, for putting that extra effort and going that extra mile for your teachers!

Happy teachers' day!

helped marcus and mabel with doing their thank you cards in powerpoint and help them to burn it on cds to give to their teachers. The idea came to me, well, must be related to occupation. saw mabel doing a thank you card, so i thought why not be more creative and do it on powerpoint. anyway, there are so many blank cds at home.

actually, i honestly think that both of them have very great teachers. If not for their patience and kind understanding, Marcus could not have persevered in his Chinese. From open book chinese spelling, he now learns his spelling and with close book, he got 90 marks for his recent chinese spelling. So this could be their last year in cedar, (next year, will most probably change them to a school nearby) i thought they should really thank and show their appreciation to their teachers.

then i began to reflect on myself. Would my students' parents think the same of me? or have i in anyway let them down?

anyway, a very happy teachers' day to all the teachers out there. You have been doing a great job, educating the next generation. Remember, we are accountable to the next generation. When their parents placed their child in school, we have a great responsibility in educating them. Kindle that passion in you again, the seeds that you sow now, you may not see the harvest, you may not reap the harvest, but remember, with every sweat you toil, with each drop of water, with each fertiliser, i'm sure the seeds that you sow will be a great plant, great tree, great being.
it has been a long week and probably a long term as well. did i mention i want to close the blog? ha, i didn't even realise i wrote that, that is what happen when your mind refuse to function and process information? ok, so i shall be more careful here and process my thougts slowly.

It has been a long week as i mentioned. it's taking a toll on my mental state. there were many times i controlled my temper, not to flare up at home. last night, after meeting ended at 7pm, suppose to go home, but students were in the library studying. helped them out a little with their work. by the time i reach home, 8 plus, i was so tired last nite, that even children, esp my dear darling Max couldn't cheer me up. The best thing is to go to bed early. True enough, i felt much better this morning.

I am very glad that 1 week break is here. I need the break to clear my messy table, clear my admin work, strategise for Marcus and Mabel's exams and of course, strategise for my students to deal with their national exams. there will be 3 papers next week, so 3/4 of the week is gone. must strategise to make use of the week wisely.

For this weekend, i'm not going to do any work. I'll just use the weekend to really spend time with my family. For this whole week, after dinner, i had been working on my laptop, non-stop from mon-fri. that will be the solace i look forward to.

this morning during the short drive to school, the morning breeze is actually very refreshing. now am listening to bee gees, it's actually very refreshing too!

Sister came back to Singapore for a short while but went back to Dubai again.
Though it's a short time together over lunch on Sunday, hope you have a good time time with your nephews and niece. also hope that your flu is better now.

i was just googling about Dubai and really marveled at its transformation over a short span of 20 years. They have the money, the resources and the courage to try out new things, new architecture. That is what i call, arts and culture pushing the boundaries.

anyway, why do i update my blog? primarily for my dear sister who is there in Dubai. the side effect, she would be able to entice my cousin with tales of my children so that my dear cousin can set her mind to give birth.

secondly, let's see what are the constraints that i face in blogging? it is definitely work. i can't blog about students, the profession, my work troubles. all i can blog about it's my thinking, my reflection (even my reflection on students, on my work, on my colleagues, i can't blog it here) i mean i can blog and say that my colleagues are incompetent or say that my students are hopeless. all these i can't say. so what have i left to say? i can only blog about my family. I dun think readers are interested to know about the adults in my family, so all i can blog about is my children. and occasionally complain about how stress i am, that's all.

sometimes i feel that i run out of things to say. sometimes i feel that i should just close down the blog.

going bongus.... this is the result of too much marking. you get tired, mentally cannot think straight, daze, stone. then as you are listening to songs on your ipod, you get emotionally easily and cry at the slightest song that you listen.

HELP! i think i'm going crazy.

let me go freshen up before i continue marking.

ha, if you think that i'll be posting some silly sentences of my students on my blog, wait long long. i won't do that. anyway, their scripts are ok, just stubborn, dun want to listen to what i say in class, so cannot blame Mrs Tan for failing them. really can't give them higher marks.
what should i blog about?

1) Ser's trip back to Singapore is postpone. (again?!?)

2) i'm having a splitting headache now. This is the 2nd time this month i had this kind of headache.

3) i have a hole in my pants! and it was students who told me that i had a small hole in the front. my reaction? i told them, luckily it's not at the back, otherwise it's another asshole.

4)i'm suppose to be marking. stress

5) next week, almost every day is busy, super stress

6) the only hope that keeps me going... children. so good to go home after a hard day's work, then, your children all run to you to hug you. like yesterday, i was very quiet when approaching home, open the door quietly, when i was inside taking off my shoes, i think max must have sense me. he said, 'mummy?' then he ran to the door to see. when he sees me, 'mummy!'

there was one day before dinner time, i went to the toilet to wash my hands. Max must have sensed that i'm not around, cos he goes like, 'mummy?' he peeped into the kitchen, looked around, 'mummy?' then the maid bluff him, 'mummy go gaigai' then he started to cry and ran to the door and shouted 'mummy!' i dun have the heart to hide from him, went to him to give him a hug. when he saw me, he was like 'mummy' that kind of tone like blaming me for disappearing.

Monday, August 18, 2008

ok, let me see, it's a new week. this is the marking period with all the tests and exams, if you are teaching graduating class.

and i'm using seaweed to reward myself. for every 5 scripts i marked, a packet of seaweed. you know, those small packet with 3 or 4 seaweed inside. that is what keeps me going. otherwise with the distractions and nintendo wii at home, i doubt i can mark.

kind of a long week, just to think of it... but i guess slowly, one day at a time, one step at a time, we can pull through.

ohhhhhh, i'm rather excited about National Day rally speech, i dunno why. actually he is quite right in saying that parents should encourage their children to marry and have children.

and yes, probably we should stop complaning about foreign talent. look at ourselves first. to put it crudely (translate to hokkien) 'government ask you to give birth, dun want to give birth. now foreign talent, don't complain.'

it is the same with the Olympic. students complain that the sportsmen and women, most of them are not Singaporeans, mostly foreign talent. so i tell them to quit complaining. i even suggest to them, 'tonight go home, put down all your books and studies and tell your parents you want to quit studies and train very hard for 4 years in table tennis and 2012 represent Singapore in Olympics. The next morning, come back and tell me what your parents advise you to do.'

so if Singaporeans are always so pragmatic (actually i think i am too, to a certain extent) then quit complaining about foreign talent.

nostalgic

let me see, yesterday i was thinking, you know how my mum's generation would tell us, last time this is gay world, blah blah blah, then we have that question mark look on our face. I was just wondering, next time i would tell my children, last time this is marina south where we can fly kite and have steamboat buffet, then it's their turn to have question mark look!

ok, let me make a list of places that have disappeared.

1) marina south - fly kite, bowling, play pool, steamboat buffet, pubs. let me see: mingles (where i used to work part time) and barracuda!!! been to that disco???? haha

2) pleasure dome at hotel phoenix - can identify? last time used to hang out there every fri nite, without fail

3) elias, fisherman's village - the food centre and its pub along the beach.

4) ridley's at ANA hotel? - that time, drive honda SiR, the red car parked right in front with all the sports car, cool.

5) 97 at that building? wow, i miss this place, only place that can listen to canto songs.

6) studio baker? haha, then it was changed to i think venom, then china black (i think)

7) sparks at Ngee Ann city? - another happening place at that time.

8) warehouse next to river view hotel?

8) fire at orchard plaza? can't even remember the name of the building. are u still able to follow?

9) rumours at forum?

10) charmers at river view hotel? still following, or dunno what the heck i'm saying?

11) Carpark A along ECP? the one nearest to rocher exit? haha, very famous carpark for couples!

this is so frustrating. plug in my external hard drive and it tells me USB not recognise.

all my documents, pictures, musics, lessons, papers all inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's a miracle i can still keep my sanity for so long

Max is so cute. these few days have been spending time with the children at home, today it's time to go back to work. he woke up in the morning (too much urine, pants wet) then he cried when we go to work.

have to pacify him.

and when you come home after a hard day's work, he would run to you, shouting, 'mummy, mummy' and come to hug you when you are at the door. he is that cute and in that way, he steals your heart.
on monday, it was a school holiday. brought the children to explorer kids. well, it was good fun, marcus and mabel actually wanted to try the highland adventure, but they are too short!

this thurs and fri is psle oral exam so pri sch got no sch. so lucky. on fri afternoon may bring the children to walk the telok blangah bridge.

hey sis, just transferred the money to you. aiyo, just finish all the bills. haha sis, i think you will take half a day to settle all your bills when you are back in sg. all the best! am looking forward to your short trip back to sg. hope we have a time to catch up over dinner or supper.

old folks home

btw, i'm suppose to be drowsy now after taking medicine and suppose to be sleeping. I woke up at 3 plus am last night, dunno for what. too many things on my mind to fall back to sleep.

with regards to money no enough and old folks home, it's funny how our this generation doesn't like the idea of old folks home. i was thinking, maybe for my generation, we may check ourselves into old folks home. as long as the room has computer and internet, i can pass time easily at the home. no need computer, i bring my own laptop, more DL. internet connection also no need, now got those broadband from M1 and so on, juz plug in and you can use liao, so convenient.

or just put a game console in my room, can liao. i can pass time easily.
money no enough 2

went to watch this movie on friday nite. It was a nice movie, hilarious and true becos it really depicts the lives of every day Singaporeans. but the movie has its sad moments too.

what i find true is when their mother is sick, how they transfer her from one child to the other child and finally the old folks home. Hui ge is really good in his role and i think the role suits him well. the other teary part is when the mother is in icu. reminds me of grandma, with all the tubes in the mouth.

when the vcd oomes out, i'll definitely buy one to keep.

the other movie i wanted to watch was 'wanted'. i guess this one i'll go and rent.

brand new pics of Knox and Vivienne

haha, for those who are wondering who on earth they are, they are Brad's and Angelina's new born twins. sorry, i subscribe to pittwatch.com. gosh, babies are so cute.

now they got 6 children, 3 adopted and 3 biological. hey, anyone in USA? can buy me a copy of that magazine?

been some time since i blog. been busy lately with marking. it's like never ending and there is a need to mark. tests, prelims coming, they need the practice. le tme count, there are five piles to clear this weekend, next week, i think i giving out a few more tests... and some more practices, so there will be new piles to mark next week.

oh yah, still got project haven't mark yet.

but it's a satisfaction to mark when students show improvement from the last assignment. it's like a drug to me, makes me want to give some more practices and mark somemore. haha, it's addictive.

as for family, recently adrian junior emailed me some sportonclub activities for children. great activities, i would love to bring the children to try out these sports. but must be member first, then the rates are cheaper. will do that this weekend.

today is NATAS fair, not sure if want to book anything. instead of doing my work, am browsing through newspaper now.

oh yah, btw, so fast, chinese 7th month already. all the getai and all the burning of paper. it's time for me to remember himer again.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

this morning, we went to fort canning for a walkathon organised by children's society. it's a 3 km walk, so very manageable for the children.

Saturday, July 26, 2008

oh yes, btw, you could have noticed that i've removed change refrigerator from my wish list. yes, not that i have bought a new fridge, i've (actually not me) we have changed the rubbing casing to the fridge. so now my fridge should not be having problems and should be saving electricity now. spend $59 is better than a few hundred $$.

by right, fisher and paykel brand should be long lasting. the showroom person says some people use their fridge for 10 over years. my fridge is about 6 years old only. so still got some more years to go. it's just that i think the moving of house has slightly damaged the fridge a little, hence the rubber casing was damaged.

i've just remembered from my colleague who teach English, only spoil people or food spoil, things dun spoil, things are damaged.

ibook

my colleague bought mac pro and gave me his ibook. It's a really nice gesture of them. them because i know both husband and wife.

hmm, dun mind that the ibook is an older version, certain applications, yes, cannot support, like msn live. but i guess it's ok. i'm still exploring it. i dunno how to express the feeling. it's like, i've been thinking of an ibook or mac book or even mac book air for a long time. so really appreciate and count my blessing.

Thursday, July 24, 2008

It is very stress or should i use the word frustrating (i also dunno what word to use) when the home is not happy.

recently for i dunno what reason, my mil has been very harsh on the maid. and she rains all these complaints to us when we reach home from work, it's really very frustrating.

actually i also dunno what exactly my mil wants me to do. does she want me to fire the maid? scold the maid? or check through her drawers?

to me, i find it pointless to scold the maid when the thing is over. unless i catch them red handed, then ok, i will scold them. but other than that, what do you want me to do?

when things go wrong, i cannot ask the two maids, who did it? why was it done? no one will ever admit. so i take it as there is a ghost in my house causing all these things.

i'm very tired, i shall stop here, even blogging it here makes me sick.

Friday, July 18, 2008

when someone cries, it's a sign of
1) weakness?
2) stress?
3) showing sadness?

last evening, on my way back home, i was just thinking... work, immense, stress etc etc. then i think of the baby i lost in 2005, i dunno why i suddenly think of himer, the thought just come suddenly, then the tears just flow. even now as i'm typing, i juz feel like crying.

so now i'm thinking, was i crying because of 1 and 2 or was i crying because of 3? it could be himer may be the trigger. am i really that weak, unable to take stress?

or could it be i've never really gotten over himer? some thing that happened 3 years ago... i'm just wondering, that's why i'm putting it down in words.

Thursday, July 17, 2008

wednesday has become my mini weekend. look forward to midweek to destress so as to perk myself to carry on.

let me see... yesterday, need to go to suntec city to collect fun on foot t-shirt. (Ser, this year we could not participate. anyway, this year's t-shirt colour not so nice leh, dirty pink colour)

after collecting the t-shirt, went sizzler for a early dinner. real early, 6pm. anyway, this is my lunch. so we had salad bar meal, we were so full from eating the salad. for those who been to sizzler would know what i mean. they offer a wide variety of salad and just by eating the salad, it's so full. i wonder how do the other people manage to gulp down their main course. so by the time we finish, about 7.30pm, went to balaclava. It was so crowded. mainly office crowd people who go there for happy hour. we ordered some beer, then by about 9 plus, we left the place. just before the band plays. but the place has never stopped being crowded.

it was a good destress method last night, we talked about alot of things. It is good. sometimes, people ask how come after married for so long, we still have so much to talk to each other, i dunno how to answer the question. But we also went through a lot these 11 years of marriage to be able to have so much to talk. we talk about the past, present and future. kao, we still have so many years with each other. i still remember there was a point in time when we almost wanted to go for marriage counselling.

Angelina jolie has given birth!!! it's a boy and a girl.
it's always joyous to have a newborn. now she has 6 children,i will never catch up with her.

but 1 Max is enough. recently i realised, as he is playing with marcus and mabel, and if they do not share things with him, he will tell them,'mummy beat har. mummy beat har.' then if i'm there, he would turn around, 'mummy!' i cannot stop laughing. must be mabel who teach him one.

last nite, i was still doing some work, he is about to sleep, but he kept on calling, 'mummy! mummy!' (ignore him) 'MAAAAAAAAMMY' (in a louder voice) finally i turned around, 'yes?' 'mummy, sleep.'

yesterday afternoon brought them to east coast park for cycling. wah, east coast is really crowded. it is a challenge to cycle for the children to cycle. But it was good exercise and everyone had some fun, laughter and sun.

my arm muscle is still aching. i had difficulty turning my arm around to unhook, oops, ie to say if my back is itchy, i will have great difficulty scratching my back.

Sunday, July 13, 2008

ok, over the weekend, i should be busy doing my work, but then on saturday, went to buy nintendo wii.... yes! we had fun playing with it on saturday afternoon. my arms were aching so much from the boxing that at night, i couldn't really sleep becos of the pain in my arm muscles. well, all three of them had fun playing with it too. the easiest game max could play i think is the wii sports, baseball. he could pitch the ball, that was so easy for him. the rest of the game, hmmm, well, if you let him hold the remote control, thinking that you can help him control, well, trust me, he doesnt' allow. and he's not stupid, he doesn't want to take the nanchuk (the other part of the remote control) that you offered.

so today is sunday, besides catching up on my work, bringing them out for cycle soon.

last nite, mum came to my house to have dinner. suppose to have a gathering at OT but postpone till next week. then after dinner, max and i accompanied her to giant for some shopping. bought quite a lot of things and giant is very croweded on a sat nite. after shopping, she stayed until about 11 plus then she goes home. she had a hand at nintendo wii too. gee, imagine mum playing golf. ha!

Wednesday, July 09, 2008

that night i had a dream. i dreamt that i had yet another baby! and while adrian is feeding the baby milk, max stood in front and keep asking, 'papa, bb? bb?'

talking about max, he is so funny. he knows when we get ready to go out, then he'll hang on to your leg or ask you to carry him, then he'll take his shoes and start to put them on. while waiting for the lift, he'll go like 'sit car, sit car' meaning he wants to take the car to go out. on the way, he'll be pointing to things and asking you, 'this?', you answer 'bus', points to another thing, 'this?', you answer 'car'. points back to bus again, 'this?' you answer 'car', 'noooooooo, bus.'

mabel is having her common tests starting today. hope she dun stress herself out. she is aiming for full marks. well, i didn't ask her to get full marks, in fact, my target mark was realistic, 80 marks. maybe i'm in my school too long, so target also become lower. i just dun want to stress her, of course if she can get full marks, i'll be happy. but let's be realistic, there is always room for careless mistakes, esp english. maybe maths, yes, should aim for full marks, esp for pri 1.

marcus - hmmm, that day my bro in law got his salary, he bought new PSP games for marcus. euro 2008 is one game, then i dunno wat else.

am seriously considering to buy wii. i saw the whole range of wii games at this shop recently. there is sims 2 pet wii game. seriously! how do you play sims 2 pet on wii? you actually simulate the stroking, feeding of the animals?? i seriously have no idea.

i have 5 sets of paper to set by next monday. 2 prelim papers. last night, i've already set 1 paper. will do the other 2 today, if i got the time. then the prelim papers must put heart into it to set. 'i'm not your superwoman...' haha, this song just came into my head suddenly.

ok, time to go for flag raising

i feel so free today

emotion-less

if there is such a phrase. if not, then allow me to coin the phrase.

maybe i'm one who do not put my worries on my face. but if it's happiness or excitment, probably yes, cos i'll be very bubbly. that's why people thought that i'm always happy, positive, no worries.

that is what i learnt from my husband all these years. whenever we have problems to discuss, worries to talk about, we usually talk about it at night, when the children are sleeping. even if we dun talk about it, we would be sleepless for that nite. then the next morning, when we wake up, life goes on as usual and we go to work.

yeah, probably blogging is one of the outlet i release my inner thoughts. once i'm done here, everything said and forgotten.
darn, yesterday was a bad start to the week. was badly affected. i told myself to quickly pick myself up and move on with life.

last nite, i read wanbao (yeah, since when i read chinese newspaper)a woman was complaining becos her 4D number came out first prize but she didn't win any money, becos the maid bought the wrong number. this goes to tell me that, sometimes, things are better to do it on your own, rather than ask someone to help you.

yup, that is me, i always believe in doing things on my own. people always complain why you don't let others do? that is my problem. i know no man is an island, we need the help of family/friends at times. but then sometimes, it's better to do things on your own. what i've learnt from yesterday's experience, i better do things on my own. i hate to owe people favours. from now on, i affirmed that things are better if i do it on my own. no more depending on others.

half year review

at work, we do half year review. but for our own personality and character, do we do review?

from young, i've heard of the chinese phrase, 'if a man does not do things for his own, ...' dunno how to do the direct translation. but in short, be selfish and do things for yourself. when i was young, i wondered, how can that be? how can being generous and kind to others be hurtful to yourself?

slowly, as we slog our lives away in this society, i really cannot help thinking of this phrase. in business, at work, who is not for yourself? be kind to others, and others will bully you.

so i've learnt, learn to harden my heart. but along the way, i know i've hurt people. people may say that i'm heartless, sly, cunning, selfish. all these, i will ignore.

fish, i dun have the mood to think further.
another week has ended.
was so busy last week, no time to think so much.
it's good to be doing work from home.

i guess all is well for now. work will be busy, with a few more things to complete besides the teaching.
am looking forward to marcus' birthday. long weekend again!

am worried for mum's case. but i guess, even if i worry too much or too little will not change or improve the situation, so i'll just pray and leave it in God's hands.

oh yes, forgot to mention.

am reading some articles

1) s'pore's inflation at 26 year high
2) ASEAN stocks at its lowest
3) DOW market also went down by dunno how many how many points
4) oil prices are creeping up US$136 per barrel again
5) China is thinking of strategies to stabilise its market.

not very good news to begin the week with
It's the first day of school today. engine overworked. miss Max so much when i'm in school. This one month holiday has certainly drawn me closer to the children. so i really miss when i'm the first person Max sees when he wakes up. You know, during the holidays, when Max woke up, he would pat me on the face to call me up. Once when he saw me open my eyes, he leaned over to kiss me. He's so cute. so I really miss that kind of bonding with him.

still a bit getting used to working after a break. Am already looking forward to the next break. but i know before a good break, we always have to work hard first. work hard, play hard. that's my motto. never work hard, cannot play hard.

on saturday, brought the family to wild wild wet for some sun and fun. The two eldest one had a great time playing with their cousins and sliding down lots of slides. my, they sure have plenty of energy. As for Max, brought him to the toddler side. don't know why, he doesn't like to slide down. must had a unpleasant experience at explorer kids with the slide.

anyway, think the children enjoyed it a lot. It is a nice place, family friendly, children friendly.

am having sunburnt on my back.

2 more things i realise about max:

1) he can say from letter A-Z repeating after you.
2) he is very sharp boy. he knows when you are going out and he will follow you very closely so that he won't lose you. very sharp and smart boy.

just now bring him to the barber. although he is 2 years old, but he can sit alone on the chair. he can sit very still and he look very serious. way cool.

over the weekend, i was at ubin (again!). when the teacher officers saw one another, we were happy. it's like an annual affair. i told them, going to ATC is like our reservist like that.

last week of holidays!!!! hmm, a lot of feelings, but dunno where to start. scared and excited. mentally preparing myself for a crazy semester.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

so what am i doing here, early in the morning blogging? it's Max's birthday. Happy birthday Max!!!! you are officially 2 years old.

so early in the morning at 4 plus, he decided to remind mummy of his birthday. his whole pyjamas was wet from his urine, so he started calling mama. changed for him, then he went back to sleep. but poor mummy, cannot sleep already.

went down to coffeeshop for an early breakfast, when i came back, the maid had already brought him downstairs to the cradle. think he woke up suddenly. i hope she didn't make max cry. i brought him up to the bedroom again and i doubt he is really fast asleep now. i think he is tossing and turning as i'm blogging.

we have given max a new nickname. 'chilli crab' chilli for being like a chilli padi, small small, but very fierce and his voice is very loud. crab, like chinese saying, 'heng xing ba dao' that is how he is, demanding and can be quite stubborn, or more stubborn than the brother. i'm sure serena and aunt sue can identify with this. remember marcus when he was younger? how he demanded to remain in the toy section when we wanted to leave the shopping centre already? yup, max is something like that, but his voice is 5x louder and maybe 2x as stubborn.

ah ma's 100 days

according to auntie sharon, today is ah ma's 100th day. yesterday, the family which is my mum, auntie sharon and uncle joe, (becos the rest are all in Dubai!!) went to the cemetry. i'll drop by later this afternoon.

btw, it has been raining in singapore these 2 days, how's the weather like in dubai?

anyway, as i'm typing my blog, max is sitting right in front of me and watching me type. that is how sticky he is when he is ill.
on saturday night, treat the whole family for dinner as this week would be max and my birthday. but perhaps the air con for that place was too cold, because on sunday, my mil and max fell ill. max is having a running nose and a slight fever. and he is very sticky to me.

this week, has big plans to spend the week with the children. promise the children to bring them to explorer kids on max birthday. and i'll just spend some quality time with them this week.

summary of max

today sitting in the car, i've sort of summarised Max, who is turning 2 soon. seems like a long time, he grew exponentially esp from 1 year old till now. before his first birthday, you can say that he didn't developed as fast. but now, by 2 years old, he's quite good at jumping (which requires a lot of balancing skill) and running. his speech has improved tremendously. at least he is able to say more words now after he learnt how to say mama

his summary
1) he loves ball
2) he loves car
3) he loves to hum along with music
4) he loves to eat
5) he loves to disturb his brother and sister. he loves to play with them
6) he is very demanding
7) he is very drama. can win oscar for best actor
8) he is smart
9) he is very cheeky and he captures your heart
looking at my archives, i realised that 2005 i wrote the most, 188. i think my average is about 88 per year. this year, as at of june, already 43, so should be able to hit my average number.

i think this is considered less. some people blog everyday, that is 365 per year. well, i blog at least about twice or thrice a week

School holidays is a bad time for my maids. This is the time where i am sitting at home, not much work to do, so what do i do? i go round the house for inspection.

as of last nite onwards, i've barred one of my maid to go near any of my children. When she is with my children, especially max and marcus, within 5 mins, either max will cry or shout at her. I think this is very unhealthy for the children. call me unreasonable, call me critical, i dun care.

today, for lunch, she just give max the gravy from the steam mince meat and just plain porridge. i ask her why there is no meat inside, she said that max dun like to eat the meat, so she didn't give. crazy, i ask her back, tonight she juz eat plain rice, see she like it or not. made her to put some meat inside. now, why didn't max like to eat meat? use the brain and think. 'chop' the mince meat into biteable size and mix with the porridge. when i feed max, he finish the whole bowl of porridge. then mabel's turn to eat porridge. fine, she took the porridge and feed mabel. when mabel was about to finish, it should be marcus turn. but all the mince meat is gone! she didn't leave any meat for marcus. is she stupid or wat? (i was thinking inside my heart, i juz didn't articulate) i cannot tahan so i ask her, did you forget that marcus didn't eat? she said no. because yesterday marcus didn't want to eat porridge and so she didn't leave any meat for marcus. what a stupiiiiiiiiiiiiiid excuse. scolded her, how can she assume that marcus didn't want to eat today? for the past few days, marcus is sick, yes, he got no appetite, but what makes you so sure that marcus didn't want to eat today? u didn't try to ask him, how can you assume again?

this is getting on my nerves. tonight i make sure she didn't have any vegetable or meat to go with her rice.

school holidays

school holidays is holiday for students, not teachers. in fact, students who are taking major exams, PSLE, O level, A level, is no holiday for them either. hence, if students have extra lessons during holidays, so who will conduct these lessons? teachers. so may i clarify for the profession, holidays are no holidays for teachers either.

They have to prepare exam papers, do their half year work review, tidy up the past half year's things, get ready for the next half a year. life and work is still as hectic. It's just a break from the students and teaching.

And holidays are for teachers to catch up with their family members.

sports day

on sat, it was marcus n mabel sch's sports day. Went with them n took part in some games. They were happy that their house won the cheer competition. Some pics here, not very flattering. Behind the sch lays an old track. It was so beautifully abandoned. Heard that it will b gone in a few months. The security guard saw us take photos, ask us to take a few more otherwise it will b gone.

sdc n army museum

last sunday, the whole family went to sdc n army museum. It was enjoyable n the ch are all happy.

explorer kids

remember promise marcus that if he pass his chinese, we'll bring him to explorer kids. So here are the pictures. Btw, we enter into some kind of lucky draw that day, n guess wat? We won a pair of tickets to watch dora live @expo. So yesterday, after collecting the tickets, we have to buy another two tickets so that the whole fam can go.

meeting old friends

last fri, an old friend's b day. Went down to celebrate. Everyone was surprise to see us as we have not kept in touch for at least 2 years or more. A lot of catching up was done. Well, i can def say that many things have changed. U can also say that some things dun change too. For example, some friends remain the same, the same mannerism, same way of talking. But their life has def changed a lot. For privacy, i shall not elaborate here. But i can feel that the group of friends that we hang out with, u can say that some people are no longer there. I dunno how to say the feeling. The feeling is strange. It's like familiar but not that familiar. I also dunno how to explain. But yes, will def continue to keep in touch
ok, where shall i start? On fri evening, i was piss. Know how i let off steam? I went bedok reservoir to jog. Well, i didn't jog the whole round, only abt three quarter then i walked the rest. It was very mentally challenging esp when others overtake u. So that was how i release my steam. Good exercise though.

ok, what is new? price of crude oil rise to a barrel of 135 per barrel on thursday. so the forecast that it would rise to above 200 per barrel is definitely coming true.
sigh.... diesel in sg is already $1.80 per litre. How are people working in the delivery industry and taxi driver going to survive? their income is all shaved off by the diesel.

inflation is at record high of 7.5 percent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Singapore inflation rate hits 7.5 percent in April, new 26-year high
Food prices alone rose 8.5 percent, transportation and communication were 7.0 percent higher and housing costs became 11.8 percent more expensive, the statistics department said.
the $200 that the government gives, instantly became smoke.
The lower income family is going to be hardest hit. Who is going to help them? Who can do something to help them? Who can lower down the price of oil? (i mean in sg) actually i have the answers. i'm just phrasing it into questions to stay out of trouble. We all know the answers and we know that nothing much is done. It all boils down to making money.

it's not that i'm not compassionate towards the two disasters that happened recently. It's just that i can't even help myself, i can't even do anything for my own country, i so kpo go and help others for wat? now, keeping money with you is the most important.

i hate it when i can feel my heart hardened, especially when it comes to money issues. Being in the society has taught me a lot of lessons and my heart no longer feels pain nor compassion. I can feel my heart turning cold and hardening. I grieve for the loss of my faith and compassion.

i also learnt that utopia will always remain utopia. Nothing is fair in the world. if the world is fair, then the rich would distribute their money to the poor. If the world is fair, then people getting the same amount of pay will work equal amount of work.

yes, work... i shall not give details about frustrations with my work or my colleagues in case i kena checked and got disciplinary warning. so i shall be very brief. if you are smart and knows how to infer, then the last sentence in my previous paragraph could have given you a clue. as for some colleagues.... sigh, i dunno what to say. i dun believe that such people can exist on earth in the first place. i am perplexed by their behaviour, their irresponsibility or shall i truthfully put it, piss.

ok, much said, my anger is still there. i've been typing very hard on the keyboard. i've been munching on biscuits since i typed this. going home may be the best thing for me right now but i dun want to bring my anger home as my children are innocent and i'm afraid that i may unintentionally vent my anger on them. argh, i feel like punching someone.

trademark 'ah.. san'

i need to trademark my name 'ah san'. only my grandma can call me that.
really tired today. went out to fort canning. so tired, i dun even feel like moving my brain cells. i think i can sleep sitting down.
